For a full decade, I've been doing my Make Ya Wanna STOMP! workshops throughout North America, and it never fails that someone will ask before the workshop begins: "AJ, what the heck is a STOMP?" This post is for you.
A STOMP is what happens on the outside to express an intense emotion, idea, or desire you have on the inside. Think about it. Have you ever STOMPed by accident? Nobody STOMPs by accident. We STOMP to make a point. We may not always do it with forethought or premeditation. Hell, we may not even do it consciously: but we definitely do it intentionally. Everybody STOMPs intentionally.
STOMP is that spontaneous combustion that ignites when focused desire meets physical expression. As Napolean Hill wrote: a resolute desire is the beginning of all success. Well, if desire is the beginning of success, then STOMP is the journey toward it. It not only broadcasts our resolve, but it also makes the emphatic statement: I mean it, dammit!
Now, lest you think that STOMPing is merely the “hissy fit” of a willful child, let me make this clear. Every STOMP (no matter what age the STOMPer, or what their motivation) shares two critical characteristics: They never happen by accident. And they are always loud. These -in the end- are the only ways to achieve success: you must be deliberate and you must be bold. Learning to STOMP is learning to be deliberate about achieving success, and to pursue it with bold and confident strides. So, whether you are embarking on a capital campaign or enhancing your skills to see and achieve one goal after another, it's a powerful thing when you learn to put your foot down and give yourself a leg up.
